Farm Scale Energy
Agriculture contributes approx 10% of total European carbon emmission.
Research into Anaerobic Digestion where bacteria breaks down organic matter to give biogas rich in methane which can power vehicles or provide electricity is well under way.
The uK has been slower on the uptake due perhaps to less intensive livestock management producing less easily managed organic matter and less government incentives,,,surprise eh?
It is a very flexible system that can create energy from wet mixed biomass. It can also convert food waste and animal manure as well as biofuels specifically grown for the purpose, into methane. The residue at the end of the process is a useful fertiliser.
