High speed travel
2009 saw the highest capital investment for 40 years......funny that as we are now in so much debt?
two of the largest planned projects,HS2 rail link and the third runway planned for Heathrow ,have already been subject to cuts with the runway now cancelled . Will the rail link go ahead?
It is politics rather than finance that will decide.
In the short to medium term some committed funding is regarded as safe....as the planned £28.5 billion investment by Network Rail through to2014 which includes £10bn ona 22% rise in capacity.
China plans to spend £326bn on 28000km of HSR by 2014
It must be remembered that perhaps the biggest issue in transport is the carbon emission.
In the UK CO2 from transport is responsible for 21% of total carbon emissions but the current goal is to reduce this by 80% by 2050.
We await decisions ......................
