Digital Britain
the governments Digital Britain Report of 2009 set out to strengthen and modernise the community infrastructures as the cost and returns for private providers was too high and would lead to v expensive bills for those in rural areas.
There was a universal service commitment of 2 meg/second and a roll out of next generation access broadband as it is recognised the rural sector have a need as much as anyone else.
the dept for business innovation and skills is the govt leader on these projects following the Digital Economy Act -9th april 2010. They have teamed up with a number of other interested parties including Broadband Delivery uK to come up with the ideas and solutions.
